Country: Nigeria Source: World Food Programme Please refer to the attached file. Situation Update • Insecurity continues to drive food insecurity across the northern states. In April, increased attacks on communities across northern Nigeria continued to disrupt livelihoods and sustainable food production. • In April, food inflation continued its steady increase for the third consecutive month and reached 16.06 percent driven by increasing prices of essential staple foods. The current food inflation also outpaces headline inflation rate with sustained increase in food prices. • Humanitarian food assistance remains critical for conflict affected communities across northern Nigeria, but coverage has declined significantly at the start of 2026 compared to previous years due to funding and access constraints, leaving gaps in support for vulnerable populations. • Consequently, poor households are increasingly dependent on humanitarian assistance amid depleted food stocks, limited income opportunities, and high prices of fuel and food, which continue to erode their purchasing power and affect food security.
