Group hits House anti-dynasty bill, citing ‘weak prohibitions’
MANILA, Philippines — A group seeking to enact an anti-political dynasty law through a people’s initiative criticized a similar measure that was recently approved on second reading by the House of Representatives for having “weak prohibitions.” In a statement on Thursday, the Dapat Isa Lang movement (D1L) described House Bill No. 8389, or the the Act Prohibiting Political Dynasties In National And Local Elective Offices, as a “watered-down bill” for only barring relatives within the second degree of consanguinity or affinity from holding public office at the same time.
