New livelihoods sought for Pangasinan fishers amid regular red tide
BOLINAO, Pangasinan – With the annual occurrence of the red tide phenomenon in the island town of Anda and this coastal town, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region I discussed long-term income-generating fishery projects with the affected fisherfolk on Tuesday. The latest BFAR shellfish advisory issued last May 16 showed that the waters of the two towns are still positive for paralytic shellfish poison or red tide, preventing gathering, marketing, and consumption of all kinds of shellfish and alamang (baby shrimps) there.
