Magnitude 4.8 quake jolts waters off Surigao del Norte

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.8 quake struck off the coast of Pilar, Surigao del Norte on Wednesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). In its earthquake bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor occurred at 10:26 a.m. and was traced 23 kilometers northeast of Pilar. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 10 kilometers. Phivolcs said Intensity II was reported in San Francisco and San Ricardo in Southern Leyte.
