Highlights/updates since the last map was sent on PacNet on 12 May 2026: Dengue New Caledonia: As of 18 May 2026, dengue transmission remains ongoing in New Caledonia. A total of 1,710 cases have been recorded since January. As of 13 May, 53 hospitalisations and no deaths had been notified. Transmission is driven by locally acquired cases, and DENV-1 remains the predominant circulating serotype. The outbreak is considered active and is likely approaching its seasonal peak, with high case numbers reported across around 30 affected communes. Incidence rates are particularly elevated in Boulouparis, Canala, Ouegoa and Thio. Seasonal conditions, including rainfall and standing water, continue to favour mosquito breeding, while population movement between communes may contribute to ongoing transmission. Health authorities continue to encourage early medical consultation for compatible symptoms and reinforce vector control and personal protection measures. The red alert for DENV-1 remains in effect. – Sources: Dengue : un nombre de cas confirmés important à Boulouparis, Canala, Ouegoa et Thio and La dengue | Direction des Affaires Sanitaires et Sociales de Nouvelle-Calédonie accessed on 19 May 2026.
