SITUATION OVERVIEW Now in its tenth week, the escalation of hostilities across the Middle East and beyond continues to trigger a humanitarian crisis spanning multiple regions in an already fragile context, with significant impact to population mobility, underscoring the criticality of lifesaving humanitarian assistance. Inside the Islamic Republic of Iran, extensive damage to more than 149,000 civilian units and the direct impact on an estimated 400,000 people continue to drive elevated but localized mobility, shaped by housing damage, livelihood loss, and service disruptions, resulting in temporary internal relocation, reliance on family networks, and labour related movement, with no indications of mass displacement. However, ongoing strain on housing, livelihoods, and basic services is likely to sustain elevated mobility levels in the near- and medium-term. In Afghanistan, inflows were driven by protection concerns, with outflows driven by economic opportunities. Meanwhile, the Syrian Arab Republic and Lebanon remain under sustained displacement strain. Cross-border flows into Syria have reached over 400,000 movements since 2 March 2026, placing additional pressure on an already overstretched humanitarian system. In Lebanon, despite partial stabilization following the ceasefire, returns are often cautious and temporary, with collective sites and host communities overstretched. While the situation at the borders with Pakistan, Iraq, and the Republic of Türkiye remains relatively stable, investments in contingency planning and preparedness remain critical.
