Developments in April 2026 Escalating conflict-related violence and repression further threatened the safety of students and educational institutions across Afghanistan , with schools and universities struck during cross-border attacks. In Kunar province, Dangam Central High School was destroyed after shelling reportedly fired by the Pakistani military, while Sayed Jamaluddin Afghan University in Asadabad was also reportedly hit by Pakistani airstrikes, injuring around 30 students and teachers and causing extensive damage. Alongside these attacks on educational infrastructure, Taliban authorities continued to target students through intimidation and discriminatory enforcement measures, including the expulsion and humiliation of Uzbek students at Kabul University over cultural attire and the arrest of students at Herat University for allegedly violating appearance rules. See Afghanistan section below for more details. Increasing incidents of violence, criminality, and insecurity disrupted education and threatened the safety of students and teachers across Nigeria . Reports from several states documented school attacks, student abductions, violent assaults, and armed raids affecting both primary and tertiary institutions. In Plateau state, students were evacuated from Jos over security fears following attacks in the area, while in Benue state students travelling to university entrance examinations were abducted by gunmen.
