World: Nutrition budget analysis: Lessons learned from interventions across four countries over 2024 and 2025
Countries: World, Burkina Faso, Djibouti, Gambia, Mauritania Sources: Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, European Union, Scaling Up Nutrition Please refer to the attached file. Four SUN countries — Burkina Faso, Djibouti, The Gambia and Mauritania — carried out nutrition budget analyses between 2024 and 2025 using the SUN methodology, with support from C4N. The analyses revealed persistently low domestic financing for nutrition and a continued reliance on external funding, but also helped drive national advocacy efforts. In Burkina Faso, findings informed the integration of nutrition into the national budget circular, while in The Gambia they supported stronger Nutrition for Growth commitments. The experiences highlighted the importance of strong multisectoral coordination, government ownership and clear advocacy objectives to strengthen nutrition financing.
