Displacement trends, April 2026 • A 9% decrease in the number of displaced households was recorded in April 2026 compared with the previous month, according to alerts reported during the month, representing a total of 110,397 displaced households across the five eastern provinces of the DRC. South Kivu recorded 42,063 displaced households, followed by North Kivu with 33,810 households, Tanganyika with 21,401 households, and Ituri with 13,124 households. • In March, 3% of the observed movements, representing 3,745 households, corresponded to returns to their places of origin, mainly in the territories of Walungu, Mwenga, and Uvira (South Kivu). • Armed tensions persist in North Kivu, where clashes between the M23 and armed groups allied with the FARDC continue despite the relative stability of the front lines, particularly in the territories of Masisi, Rutshuru, and Walikale. The proximity of the positions held by the different belligerents continues to fuel recurring clashes and trigger new population movements. In South Kivu, direct fighting, drone strikes, rivalries between armed factions, and abuses against civilians in the Uvira, Fizi, and Kalehe Highlands remain major drivers of insecurity and forced displacement. • South Kivu Province remains heavily affected by population movements marked by intensified clashes between the M23, its allies, and the FARDC supported by Wazalendo groups, particularly in the territories of Kalehe, Walungu, Mwenga, and Uvira. Violence in the areas of Ziralo, Buzi, Muchinga, and the Uvira Highlands has caused significant population movements toward the health zones of Kalonge, Minova, Mubumbano, Walungu, and Hauts-Plateaux.
