Myanmar - Earthquake (GDACS, USGS, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 18 May 2026)
Countries: Myanmar, Thailand Source: European Commission's Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations A 5.2 M earthquake at a depth of 10 km struck southern Myanmar on 18 May at 02:05 UTC (08:35 local time). The epicentre was located 35 km south-east of Yangon city in the Yangon region. According to the USGS PAGER estimates, up to 42 000 people were exposed to strong shaking, and 238 000 people to moderate shaking. As of 18 May, media report that several building have been evacuated as a precaution in Yangon city and neighbouring towns. Tremors were also felt in the eastern and northern Thailand, in Bangkok city and in northern provinces of Lampang and Chiang Mai. There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
