Mozambique: Health Cluster Floods Update - May 2026
Country: Mozambique Source: Health Cluster Please refer to the attached file. With the water receding, most displaced persons have returned home or to alternative places. The main health risks currently are waterborne diseases such as cholera and diarrhea, due to contaminated and unsafe water sources, as well as non-functional or destroyed latrines. Regarding permanent damage to health centers, national authorities report that 229 health facilities have been affected by the floods nationwide, the majority of which are located in Gaza Province. An estimated 26 health facilities remain closed due to flooding and infrastructure damage. Until now, Health Cluster has supported over 67,000 persons in 18 districts. The main modality of the response is mobile brigades (“brigadas movies integraies”), coordinated by the provincial health department (Departamento Provincial de Saúde, DPS).
