Gov't soldiers clash with rebels in Albay

LEGAZPI CITY — Government troops clashed with suspected communist rebels in Purok 6, Sitio Carangag, Barangay Malabnig in Guinobatan, Albay, on Sunday morning. Police Col. Noel Nuñez, Albay police chief, said troops conducting joint strike operations encountered about 10 New People’s Army (NPA) members. The operating units were composed of personnel from the Regional Intelligence Division, the Counter-Intelligence Task Force, the Special Action Force, the Regional Intelligence Unit, the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 5, and the Philippine Army’s 49th Infantry Battalion.
