HIGHLIGHTS Since March 2026, amid intensified hostilities in Lebanon marked by widespread airstrikes and ongoing violence, nearly 2,200 people have been reported killed, including 172 children, and nearly 7,200 people reported wounded, including 661 children. More than 1.1 million people are displaced as families flee violence. Damage to infrastructure is straining already fragile WASH systems and exacerbating protection, education, health and nutrition risks for children and their families. The escalation is compounding pre-existing vulnerabilities. Lebanon was already facing a multi-layered crisis driven by economic collapse, protracted displacement, and climate pressures, with 2.7 million people lacking safe water and an estimated 20 per cent of school-aged children out of school. Rising poverty among Lebanese communities and Syrian and Palestine refugees is increasing the risk of resorting to harmful coping mechanisms, including child labour and child marriage. In line with the Lebanon Response Plan and the inter-agency flash appeal to address critical, life-saving needs resulting from the renewed hostilities, UNICEF is scaling up multisectoral support in shelters, host communities, border areas and hard-to-reach locations. The response to escalation-related displacement is being combined with ongoing support to vulnerable populations affected by Lebanon’s protracted crisis. Gender-based violence risk mitigation, accountability to affected populations and disability inclusion are integrated across all programmes.
