Uruguay - Severe weather (WHO PAHO, National Emergency System, INUMET) (ECHO Daily Flash of 13 May 2026)
Country: Uruguay Source: European Commission's Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations Heavy rainfall, strong winds, thunderstorms and very low temperatures have been affecting most of Uruguay since 8 May, causing floods and several severe weather-related incidents (mainly due to the strong wind) that have resulted in population evacuation and damage. WHO PAHO and the National Emergency System reports, as of 13 May, six displaced families, 85 affected families and 85 damaged houses across Rivera, Salto, Paysandú, Treinta y Tres, Durazno and San José departments. In addition, the National Emergency System also reports 652 evacuated people (of whom 346 are in the Montevideo capital city area and 306 across the Interior department) in a number of evacuation centres and a total of 3 291 affected people countrywide due to the cold spell. Over the next 72 hours, no more severe weather is forecast over the whole of Uruguay.
