Siargao attack sparks call to shield locals from unruly tourists

MANILA, Philippines – A lawmaker on Sunday urged local governments to protect their communities from rowdy tourists following an attack in Siargao earlier this week, while appealing to visitors to respect the places they visit. “Local governments must actively protect the welfare and way of life, especially of indigenous communities in the face of tourist abuse,” Solid North Rep. Ching Bernos said in a statement.
