House rep pushes for voter education in high school

MANILA, Philippines — Rep. Nathaniel Oducado of the 1Tahanan party-list has proposed a bill seeking to include voter education in the high school curriculum to promote “educated voting.” Oducado filed House Bill No. 8738 in March, but it was only made public on Wednesday. If passed, it shall be known as the Compulsory Voter Education Act of 2026. “By providing students with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to participate responsibly in the elections, the State seeks to instill a culture of informed citizenship, accountability, and civic responsibility,” the bill’s explanatory note said.
