Duterte's new lawyer seeks another fitness review ahead of ICC trial

MANILA, Philippines — The new lawyer representing former President Rodrigo Duterte has asked the International Criminal Court (ICC) for another fitness review of the ex-leader’s health and fitness to stand trial. Peter Haynes, Duterte’s defense counsel, sent the request on May 15, arguing that setting a trial date would be “inappropriate” given “unresolved factors,” including questions surrounding the former president’s competence.
