DOJ forms team to probe into Senate chaos, Bato dela Rosa's exit

MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Justice (DOJ) has formed a special panel to conduct a comprehensive case build-up regarding incidents that transpired at the Senate complex between May 11 and May 14, 2026. Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida said the panel, composed of prosecutors, “shall be vested with such powers as may be necessary to enable you to conduct an impartial, thorough, and just investigation, including the authority to issue subpoenas.” The investigation will probe the technicalities of the recent firearm-related disturbances and the circumstances surrounding Senator Ronald “Bato” de la Rosa’s departure from Senate custody.
