Overview This Weekly Bulletin focuses on public health emergencies occurring in the WHO African Region. This week’s articles cover: Diphtheria in Mali Cholera in Mozambique Floods in Mozambique For each of these events, a brief description, followed by public health measures implemented and an interpretation of the situation, is provided. A table is provided at the end of the bulletin with information on all new and ongoing public health events currently being monitored in the region, as well as recent events that have been controlled and closed. Major issues and challenges include Floods in Mozambique: The floods in Mozambique represent a large-scale and worsening emergency with significant displacement and rising public health risks. Major constraints include limited access to affected and isolated districts, damaged infrastructure, overstretched health services, and insufficient resources to meet the growing humanitarian needs. These challenges are delaying timely delivery of life-saving assistance and weakening outbreak prevention and response efforts. Urgent priorities include scaling up access, strengthening multisectoral coordination, mobilizing additional funding, and rapidly restoring essential health and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services to prevent further deterioration. Cholera in Mozambique: The cholera outbreak in Mozambique reflects a sustained and complex emergency driven by flooding, unsafe water, and operational constraints.
