Lee visits traditional market in Seongnam, meets merchants and shoppers
President Lee Jae Myung visited a traditional market in the city of Seongnam on Thursday to meet merchants and shoppers and check local economic conditions, his office said. Lee visited the Moran market, just south of Seoul, one of the largest traditional five-day markets in the metropolitan area, according to presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung. It was also a place where Lee pushed ahead with market relocation and various measures to improve market conditions during his tenure as Seongnam mayor. Merchants welcomed Lee, saying, "Welcome back home." Yoo Jeom-su, head of the merchants' association, told Lee that the market has recently seen an increase in visitors, while pointing to difficulties, including a decline in the number of stores and an aging merchant population amid changes in the commercial landscape. Lee sampled various foods at the market and even promoted local products on the spot, Kang added.
