Vanuatu Ciguatera Fish Poisoning Situation Report #8 as of 25 May 2026

Key Highlights: 16 new cases of ciguatera fish poisoning (CFP) reported between EpiWeek 19–21, bringing the cumulative total to 188 cases. Cases have significantly declined, but remained above the alert threshold in EpiWeek 19 and 21; only 3 cases were reported in EpiWeek 20. Males account for 61% of cases, while females account for 39%. Highest number of cases among individuals aged 15–34 years; fewer cases in those 35+, and lowest in children ≤14 years. Majority of cases linked to unspecified “other” fish (103 cases) and reef fish (71 cases), with smaller numbers linked to other fish types. Cases reported across 10 islands, with Efate accounting for 47% of reported cases. The Surveillance Team will continue close monitoring and provide updates as needed
