Bougainville time Living and working in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville is fun. Mostly for the things people get away with when it comes to time. There is the called Bougainville time. It is the 1 hour that Bougainville operates ahead from the rest of Papua New Guinea. Setting a meeting up here one gets asked question in succession. “Is the meeting at 1pm? Is it at 1pm PNG time or 1pm Bougainville time?”. Some organisations here with head offices in POM are also justify a later start to the working day. One stating, “my team are asked to come in an hour late, as the Port Moresby office has still not opened for business”. Some may criticize that rationale, but it is what it is.
