Dry conditions and abnormal heat expected in parts of Africa, Central Asia, Central America, and Northern South America. Africa Weather Hazards Dryness persists in southern Ethiopia and South Sudan. Flooding is anticipated along the Gulf of Guinea next week due to increased rainfall. 1. Inundation continues in the Sudd wetlands of South Sudan. 2. Below-average rainfall since the start of the rainy season has caused abnormal dryness and drought across many parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Angola. This drought has caused crop damage, livestock deaths, and reduced water availability in the western and central provinces of Angola. 3. Continuous below-average rainfall since late December of last year has resulted in abnormal dryness across Madagascar, and severe drought in the country’s southern region. 4. Above-average rainfall in recent weeks has caused soil oversaturation, resulting in flooding in eastern parts of Uganda, southwestern Kenya, and western Ethiopia. 5. Over the last 30 days or more, poor rainfall caused abnormal dryness in central Somalia, as well as southern and eastern Ethiopia. 6. Diminished rainfall over the last 6 weeks in western South Sudan has resulted in less than 50% of average totals and poor soil moisture conditions. 7. Forecasted much above-average temperatures will lead to abnormal heat in Morocco, Western Sahara, western parts of Mauritania, southern Chad, eastern parts of the Central African Republic, and western South Sudan over the next week. 8.
