Country: Pakistan Source: World Food Programme Please refer to the attached file. • For the week ending 21 May national average prices of staple foods edged up slightly since 26 February when the crisis in the middle east began. • Compared to the week of May 14, wheat flour prices are 2 percent higher, mainly driven by higher transportation costs and some supply disruptions due to moving large quantities of wheat across provinces. • The cost of a basic food basket is PKR 15,758 per month (USD 57) or PKR 3,939 per week (USD 14) nationwide, excluding lower cost items such as vegetables or spices. • Fuel prices decreased week-on-week, with petrol and diesel (HSD) both down by 1.2 percent. However, compared to pre-crisis levels, petrol and HSD prices are higher by 59 percent and 48 percent, respectively.
