Vanuatu Dengue Situation Update 01 (18 May 2026)

Epidemiological Summary From Epi Week 01 to Epi Week 19, 2026, a total of 8 dengue cases were reported on Efate Island. No hospitalizations or deaths have been recorded. Of the reported cases, 88% were from the Pango Area Council, while the remaining cases were reported within Port Vila. The gender distribution indicates that 75% of cases were female, and the majority (75%) were aged above 26 years. Case investigations have been conducted and indicate epidemiological links between several cases, with some individuals reporting travel history to Fiji within the past 15 days, which falls within the dengue incubation period. At this time, no dengue outbreak has been declared. However, a slight increase in reported cases has been noted, and the situation will continue to be closely monitored for any changes in transmission patterns. Current case numbers remain below the alert threshold, and the surveillance team will continue to actively monitor the situation.
