Latvia's historic narrow-gauge train line sees passenger decline

LV · · Latvian Public Broadcasting

The narrow-gauge train between Gulbene and Alūksne has been running since 1903 and is the only one in Latvia that still operates on its historic route. In the early days, the train ran four times a day, but now, due to a lack of passengers and funding, it runs only twice. Looking to the future, the company operating the train acknowledges that state and public funding is becoming increasingly important, Latvian Television reports.
