MANILA, Philippines — A petition was filed before the Supreme Court seeking a temporary restraining order (TRO) against certain provisions of the Bangsamoro Autonomy Act (BAA) ahead of the first regular parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barmm). In a 9-page manifestation filed on May 22, 2026, petitioners Sultan Alim Saad Amate and Maulana Mamutuk reiterated their urgent prayer for the immediate issuance of a Status Quo Ante Order (SQAO) and/or TRO against BAA Nos. 86 and 88, arguing against the provisions’ constitutionality.
