Situation Update World Health Assembly Adopts Resolution on Protection of Health Care in Lebanon with Broad Support. The Lebanese delegation to the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA79) successfully led the drafting and adoption of a landmark resolution on the protection of health care in Lebanon, securing 95 votes following intensive negotiations and strong international engagement. However, despite the ceasefire and the adoption of this resolution, attacks on healthcare continue. Since the last reporting period, three incidents have been recorded, resulting in seven deaths and ten injuries among health-care workers. Since the ceasefire took effect, a total of 27 attacks have been reported, causing 25 deaths and 42 injuries. Overall, since 2 March, 173 incidents have resulted in 123 deaths and 273 injuries among health-care personnel. These continued attacks occur despite the protected status of healthcare under International Humanitarian Law (IHL). Their persistence raises serious concerns regarding compliance with the fundamental IHL principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution, which obligate all parties to protect civilians and ensure the safety of essential services, including medical care. Access to maternal health services and acute medical care remains critically constrained south of the Litani River. Pregnant women and patients with life-threatening conditions (acute cardiac events, critical exacerbations of chronic diseases) in the southern villages including Rmeich, Debl, and Ain Ebel face delays of up to 48 hours to secure clearance for movement to referral facilities, posing serious risks to patients outcomes including increased maternal, neonatal morbidity a...
